3 Reasons Meditation will change your Life! (Hint: Body, Mind, Spirit)
Meditation is a helpful tool in elevating your consciousness and creating your best life. Meditation not only helps with relaxation and reducing stress but it also helps us to tap into our inner wisdom. Meditation allows us to uniquely encounter our thoughts and feelings in new ways, creating an empowering space to facilitate insight and creativity. Here are three ways mediation will change your life for the better.
- Mind: Mediation is proven to help us reach emotional peace and happiness.
As a therapist, I am highly invested in complimentary tools to therapy to help my clients achieve long-standing joy and emotional healing. Through my own practice I have seen how mediation has helped my clients reach a more sustainable level of happiness and peace. Furthermore much research details how meditation is very effective when treating depression, anxiety, and trauma related mental health issues. In 2014, a study published in the Journal of American Medicine, described how a consistent meditation practice has the same efficacy on treating depression as does antidepressants! Importantly they also note that meditation, like psychotropic medication, should be used as a tool in conjunction with talk therapy to treat such issues like depression and anxiety and is not an end all be all to treatment.
- Body: Meditation effects on a cellular level, improving our overall physical health.
Mediation allows us to experience our bodies in a controlled and mindful manner. As a result, through mediation we hone our ability to do things like slow down our heart rate and breathing, which has tremendous benefits for our physical health.
The mediation foundation, The Art of Living, lists the following as physical benefits of meditation:
- Lowers high blood pressure
- Lowers the levels of blood lactate, reducing anxiety attacks
- Decreases any tension-related pain, such as, tension headaches, ulcers, insomnia, muscle and joint problems
- Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior
- Improves the immune system
- Increases the energy level, as you gain an inner source of energy
- Spirit: Meditation facilitates transformation and creativity at a spiritual level.
Based on my own experiences from facilitating mediations to my clients, and my experiences from my own mediation practice, I know firsthand how mediation can transform you for the better. The act of going within and noticing your spirit with acceptance, without any judgment, you learn things about yourself that catapult revolution. Mediation allows for sense of tranquility that creates a safe internal environment for growth. Furthermore, through the act of learning to let go, whether letting go of interruptions or even nagging thoughts; mediation allows us to perfect the technique of letting go., a key function in spiritual transformation.
